Asiatic Empire (Los Angeles, since 2001) + Multihop (NYC,
1 Year Anniversary)
showcasing the best of East Coast West Coast Asiatic hip hop:
ASIAN HIP HOP SUMMIT NEW YORK
Saturday, July 14, 2007
Galapagos Art Space, Brooklyn NY
presented by Sidlocks/Multihop (1 year anniversary)
www.asiaticempire.org
www.myspace.com/multihop
On
Saturday, July 14, 2007, the first annual Asian Hip Hop Summit New York will
take place at
Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A festival celebrating outstanding
Asiatic rap talent,
Asian Hip Hop Summit first originated in Koreatown, Los Angeles, in April 2002,
on the 10th anniversary
of the LA Riots. Since then, Asian Hip Hop Summit has launched the performing
careers of countless
Asiatic musicians & artists, while also spawning a politicized teen-based
hip hop subculture & music
scene in K-Town LA.
There
have been five Asian Hip Hop Summits in Los Angeles and one in San Francisco.
Now, for the first time, Asian Hip Hop Summit will be held in the city that
gave birth to hip hop.
This will be a truly historic occasion, bringing together the best of West Coast
and East Coast Asiatic
hip hop in the cultural capital of the United States. The West Coast will be
represented by
Dumbfoundead from the Jeet Kune Flow open mic in Koreatown, Los Angeles, and
by Magnetic North
from the Bay Area. The East Coast will be represented by Miss Info (special
guest host, Hot 97),
Flowsik, El Gambina, L.S., and more.
The first annual Asian Hip Hop Summit New York is a collaboration between NYC-based
Multihop,
which will be celebrating its one year anniversary, and LA-based Asiatic Empire.
PERFORMERS FOR ASIAN HIP HOP SUMMIT NEW YORK
hosted by MISS INFO
(Hot 97 FM, NYC)
www.myspace.com/missinfo
Whether
on radio, on television, or in magazine, Miss. Info is making a blend of wit,
news,
and good ol' gossip her multi-media trademark. After leaving her hometown Chicago,
this longtime Harlemite started grinding as a hip hop journalist, contributing
to every important
music magazine out, including XXL, Vibe, etc. Two years ago, she discovered
a whole new voice
at New York's Official #1 For Hip Hop and R&B, HOT 97, and brought her "Celebrity
Drama"
gossip report to life for the listeners. Keep up for Miss Info's famous (and
infamous)
dish every Saturday from 8am-12noon and her "Celebrity Drama" report
every Monday
through Thursday night on the Funkmaster Flex show between 7-9pm.
DUMBFOUNDEAD
(Koreatown, Los Angeles)
www.myspace.com/dumbfoundead
Dumbfoundead,
born Jonathan Park 21 years ago in Argentina, is a Korean emcee/poet raised
in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Representing several crews, including Jeet Kune Flow
(K-Town open mic co-founder), Thirsty Fish, Public Axis, and Project Blowed
(South Central LA), Dumbfoundead has been ripping cyphers, open mics, concerts,
MC battles, and poetry slams all over Southern California. As much a freestyle
artist
as a disciple of the written word, Dumbfoundead is also one of the most sought-after
hosts in the hip hop scene. Dumbfoundead has established his reputation
as the most versatile and accomplished young Asian artist in America.

MAGNETIC NORTH
(Bay Area, CA)
www.myspace.com/magnetichiphop
Magnetic North
is the hip hop duo known for moving your body as well as your
synapses. Respected nation-wide for their soul scorching lyrics and innovative
melodies,
Direct & Theresa Vu have turned heads from rap superstar Nelly to renowned
civil
rights activist Yuri Kochiyama. Originally from the Bay Area, Magnetic North
has now
relocated to New York City.

EL GAMBINA
(Organic Thoughts, Jersey)
www.myspace.com/elgambina
Rapping proved
a spontaneous endeavor for El Gambina, whose foray into penning
hip hop rhymes began in high school. She joined Organic Thoughts, a NJ based
hip-hop
crew, in 2000 and released "The Purest Form" under Blaze the World
Entertainment. She
doesn't fit the typical urban MC image and so it's not unusual for her to arrive
at a studio
for a recording session, only to get mistaken for the producer's girlfriend.
El Gambina's
lyrics encourage people to embrace their individuality and she hopes that her
music will
inspire others to do what they love.

FLOWSIK
(Flushing, Queens)
www.myspace.com/flowsik
"What I
believe is that everyone is the same. We breathe the same air, have the
same color blood, we go through similar conflicts and struggles in life. I want
to show
the world that being Korean has nothing to do with anything. Of course, that's
my culture,
but in hip hop as a whole, we are one."

L.S.
(Chinatown, NYC)
www.myspace.com/lsny1
L.S. grew up
on New York¡¯s very own war torn streets of Chinatown. From extortion to
running gambling houses, a very youthful Christopher Louie was swiftly educated
in the streets and the secret code of the Chinese underworld. His criminal life,
like so many others, was brought to an abrupt end when he was incarcerated for
possession of an illegal weapon and awakened by the reality of jail life. While
in jail,
L.S. began to take his talent more seriously and the writing commenced.

MISNOMERS
(K-Town, NYC)
www.myspace.com/misnomermusic
The music of
MISNOMER(S) is about expression, experience, musicality,
and the interplay of our unique voices (MC and violin). Our
music holds lyrical
content in high regard--the words are the impetus. We demonstrate not just proficiency,
which Asian-Americans are renowned for, but also a unique and strong identity-based
ethos in our music. On
a sonic level, our music challenges traditional notions of Hip Hop,
placing the violin as prominently as the MC, rather than in the background
as accompaniment.
Yes, we are actually sisters.

KOBA
(Kontrast/Sulu Series, Brooklyn)
www.myspace.com/modelminority
Koba is an inventive,
irreverent and unrepentantly radical MC slash producer
hailing from Brooklyn, NY. For five years he entertained eager audiences from
coast to coast as part of the now disbanded Asian-American hip-hop group
Kontrast, culminating with the release of their debut album Pencils (which Koba
produced and wrote the bulk of). From soulful vocal harmonies giving expression
to another world of possibility to a delivery as equally unrelenting as reality
itself
"from the West Bank to the South Side of Chicago," Koba creates music
with
nothing less than the entire globe in his sights.

KELLY TSAI
(APIA National Poetry Summit, Brooklyn)
www.myspace.com/yellowgurl_poetry
KELLY ZEN-YIE
TSAI is a Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based Chinese Taiwanese
American spoken word artist who has been featured at over 200
performances across the world, including venues like the Nuyorican Poets Cafe,
the House of Blues, the Apollo Theater, and three seasons of "Russell Simmons
Presents HBO Def Poetry." She tours the country extensively as a solo artist
as well as a performer for the "We Got Issues!" civic transformation
and
performance project.

ROBOT DREAM MACHINE
(Bay Area/NYC)
www.myspace.com/thailann
Robot
Dream Machine is a Dubstep, Hip Hop and Soul Electronica experiment
compromised of vocalist extraordinaire Thailan and uber-producer Nate Mars.
Though born in the infamous yards of the Song Khla shantytown outside Bangkok,
Thailan represents her homelands of Vietnam and China with an unyielding nationalistic
fervor.
Nate Mars is a descendant of famed Bu-Jew (Buddhist-Jewish) missionary Yenkel
Gong
and is Asian by association. Together the duo annihilate dark matter particulates
in a home-made atom smasher.

DJ ENVY
(Hot 97 FM, NYC)
